Rule of Law in the EU: How is the European Commission addressing challenges in Hungary and Poland?

The European Movement Belgium and the European Movement International held an online discussion featuring Didier Reynders, European Commissioner for Justice, entitled Rule of Law in the EU: How is the European Commission addressing challenges in Hungary and Poland?

Ever since the initiation of the European project, the rule of law has formed a cornerstone of the European construction and is one of the founding principles of our Union. On several occasions, however, Member State governments have undermined and continue to undermine the rule of law in their own jurisdictions.

Our guest Didier Reynders, European Commissioner for Justice will join us to discuss the European Commission’s framework built to maintain the coherence and consistency of democracy, and guarantee unity at a time when the European Union is confronted with breaches of the rule of law from within.
